Cute, Summer Hairstyle Hacks

With the unofficial start of summer already past, it is time for pools, beaches, ball games, and spending all sorts of time outside. With so much to do outside, you truly do not want to be stuck inside styling your hair if you could be enjoying the beautiful weather and some outdoor activities. But of course, you still want to look your best. There are a few adorable but low-maintenance hairstyles that are simply perfect for the summer months, and you don’t have to be a cosmetology graduate to be able to replicate them on yourself. At FHI Heat, we have compiled some of this summer’s best looks below.

Salty/Beach Waves

If you want to look like you have spent the day at the beach, but you have to shop, work, or go somewhere far away from the water, then taking beach waves with you is the way to go. This sassy salty look could not be easier to create.

Start dry

Start with our Platform Signature 1” Tourmaline Ceramic Professional Styling Iron held upright with the clamp facing forward, and a one to two-inch section of hair in the clamp. Leave an inch or two of hair at the ends out of the iron to create the beachy wave, as you twist the iron away from your face. Once at the crown of your face, hold 3-4 seconds, then open the clamp and pull the iron straight down to release your hair.

Our Platform Signature 1” Tourmaline Ceramic Professional Styling Iron is perfect for every type of hair. It features three layers of baked ceramic plates infused with tourmaline so the heat distributes evenly, leaving you with lovely beach waves. Our HydraHeat™ Technology seals in vital moisture reduces frizz, and repels humidity, leaving your hair softer and smoother.

Start wet

If your hair is wet, use a salt spray all over your hair to create that “naturally” beachy look. You can then let it air dry or use our Curl Defining Diffuser Attachment, voted the best diffuser for long hair. We recommend using it with our Platform 2000 Nano Power Pro Dryer for a few minutes, which will add even more volume. This tool features a high-velocity AC motor that dries hair up to 50% faster, and a HydraHeat™ interior to distribute heat evenly. This seals in moisture, for even heat distribution which repels humidity, reduces frizz, and helps eliminate static.

Pineapple Updo

If you have naturally curly hair and it is too hot for the flatiron, do not fear. By creating a pineapple updo, you can get your hair off your neck and enjoy a little sassy look for the summer. To pineapple your hair, simply bend forward and gather your hair on the top, closer to the front. Using an elastic or scrunchie, keep the pineapple in place without making it so tight that it pulls. Total Control Hair Styling Gel is our go-to to hold this in place. This offers a strong yet flexible hold, with no flaking.

Braids

One easy and cooling summer look is to create braids in your hair. There are so many varieties to choose from, but no matter which type you want, make sure that you start with smooth, hydrated, and silky hair. Our Satin Finish Conditioning Treatment is both lightweight and residue-free, so it won’t weigh your braids down, but it will offer your hair revitalization and a moisturized look.

We love the look of a sporty braid, and how fast the look comes together. Just simply pull your hair into a high ponytail, and then separate it into three sections to create a loose braid. You will have a cool and trendy look in no time.

Another braid trending for summer is the butterfly braid, which is made up of two large braids on each side of your head that feed into a single braid. To create this look, start with an off-center part, add in braiding hair to the right side of your head and continue braiding. Leave this braid unfinished and then repeat on the left side, bringing both sides together around your neck. Add some Shine Express Hair Mist to your finished braids to help create a glow in the summer.

Bubble Braids

If you love the idea of braids, but you don’t have the time or skill to pull them off, bubble braids are the way to go. Instead of taking the time to braid your hair, just use elastics! This look can be worn as an updo (ponytail), half-pony, pigtails, or can be used to accent your hair if you want to leave it long! All you have to do is group your hair into small sections within elastics, and tug each section to get that “bubble” look. Pulling out some tendrils in the front will give this a carefree, summery, romantic feel to it.

Ballet Bun

Could there be anything simpler for long hair than a ballerina bun? After pulling your hair back into a long ponytail, twist the ponytail into a tight rope shape. Wrap the twisted hair around the ponytail tightly, continuing to coil it as you go. Tuck the ends into your ponytail, and secure with bobby pins. Stay Styled Variable Hold Dry Hair Spray is the perfect product to use to keep your hair frizz-free and keep your hair in the bun where it belongs. This is humidity resistant and won’t leave your hair crunchy or stiff!

Summer is here and so are these sexy, sultry looks. Sand, surf, and strands of beautiful hair can be yours if you follow these simple tricks. Trust us, creating these hairstyles with FHI Heat products and tools will truly be a day at the beach!
